It’s rare you get a film that’s not about the catharsis for us in finding the killer or solving the case. Both looking and connecting things that aren’t there for the case, but there for them. I still found this film quite intriguing though, two hotshot detective types, both killed someone they weren’t meant to. It’s like forcing the hand of the characters for plot over story. But it just seemed like they felt they couldn’t let it unfold. I mean we’re on a cold case essentially for the entire film, so we needed urgency as the audience. Or even just rewritten into another scenario, the entire story would feel so much tighter. Enter: Leto's character, Albert Sparma, a prime suspect and an eery one at that.

My only beef is that the device used in the writing to enable Rami’s character to unhinge, having him dig holes, having him dance to Leto’s every word. The movie follows the two as they struggle to solve the cases, their own lives becoming intertwined. I liked the tie-up at the end, it was a pay off I wanted for Denzel’s character.

The film is an initiative taken on by professional snowboarder Marie-France Roy and directed by Filmmaker Darcy Turenne in which all the riders are. It can work, but from a lot of the projects he’s been in, for me it doesn’t. The Little Things is a snowboard movie project based on environmentally conscious riders who are inspirational through their riding, as well as their sustainable ways of living and thinking. But Rami has always delivered his performances like they’re plays. Leto does really well have his dialogue roll off so naturally, as does Denzel, a living acting legend ofcourse. Denzel’s character is very interesting but because we get too little in the first half, we’d rather follow the main plot.īut that moment they needed Rami’s character to get in the car needed a lot of work.

Leto certainly brings an urgency and an engagement that slowy drips away as we know the premise. We know it’s there ofcourse or at the very least that his character is troubled by the case from moments like his wife finding him awake in the late hours.īut I just didn’t buy the performance as a tough as nails detective who has slipped into the need to make the killer pay.

I think what wasn’t beat upon enough was the obsessive nature of Rami’s character.

The writer needed to devise a way for Denzel to Rami’s character in the car.
